Welcome to INTEGIRLS Bay Area

A nonprofit bridging the gender gap in competitive problem-solving

Our Mission

As girls and non-binary individuals in math, all of us have seen the stark differences between the number of boys, girls, and non-binary participants in traditional math competitions or math-related activities in general. This monumental gap has discouraged many girls and non-binary people around the world from pursuing math, either as a hobby or a career. Through our competition, we hope to inspire a passion for this subject in more girls and non-binary individuals, helping to close this gap. Additionally, by bringing together those who love math, we aim to create a community of future female and non-binary mathematicians who can support each other in the face of any discrimination. Math is an amazing subject full of hidden puzzles and strategies, and together, we want to create an event full of joy where girls and non-binary participants can bond over the beauty of the subject.

Statistics on Females in STEM

  1. According to MAA, only ~17% of the AIME I test takers were female. (The chart to the right uses information from MAA’s AMC Statistics.)

  2. Did you know? Out of the 500 students who qualify for USA(J)MO, the average percentage of female qualifiers is ~10%.

  3. According to College Factual, in 2016, 37% of STEM graduates were female, and 63% were male.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

I’m interested but have no math competition experience. Can I still attend?

Of course, you should really attend this competition. In the past, many people have stated that INTEGIRLS gave them an entry into math competitions and they had no idea how it was until they attended the event. If you would like any pointers to understand how to prepare, you can feel free to email us. Hope to see you at our event(s).

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

You can contact us through Facebook or Instagram. In addition you can email us at bayarea@integirls.org. It may take up to 2 weeks to get a reply from us through email. If it is urgent, you can message us in Facebook or Instagram.

How can I contribute?

You may choose to volunteer for us by signing up here or can donate to our non-profit here. You can also email us to receive more information about how you can help. YOUR HELP MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO US.

I do not have a INTEGIRLS Chapter near my area, but I am interested in participating in the competition. Can I still attend?

We also encourage students not only from the Bay Area to attend, but also other areas as well. INTEGIRLS Bay Area crafts our own problems for our competitions, so even if you attended an INTEGIRLS event by another chapter, our chapter will have completely different problems. You may sign up here.

I do not identify as female, but I would like to participate. How can I do that?

If you do not identify as female or non-binary, we encourage you to check out other opportunities we may share. You can contact info@integirls.org to find more activities apt for you.

How many competitions will you conduct throughout the year?

We are targeting to host 2 competitions a year: one in the fall and one in the spring. More details about these competitions will be available above or here.
